New Bread
2024
Role: Educational Design, Concept Strategy, Narrative Development

For New Bread, our challenge was to develop an alternative waste system. Diverables included a visual narrative on waste awareness, physical bioplastic samples, and a tool to activate broader change.

My partner Cat Truong discovered a way to make bioplastic from old bread, a material that’s often wasted in large amounts. Building on her research, I designed an educational curriculum for children aged 10 to 13, teaching them about waste systems and how to turn bread into bioplastic themselves.

We used children as a kind of Trojan horse, carrying the message into households in a way adults wouldn’t reject outright. Because when your kid asks you to think differently about waste, it lands more personally than when it comes from a campaign or institution.

New Bread isn’about material innovation — it’s about changing conversations at the kitchen table.
